1. Is kayaking safe?
Yes, but .... on condition that you act reasonably by following a few basic rules: Always count with the possibility of kayak turn over •It can be reduced by wearing life vest. If you carry children in your kayak remember that in the event of an accident, one adult will be able to save only one child. • Clothes limits the ability of swimming, during rapid current on the river, waves on the lake or low water temperatures. Therefore, you must choose the dress properly that in the case tipping will not limit our movements in the water. In difficult conditions there is all the time need to wear life vest. •Never swim alone. There always should be someone next to you who will help you in case of an accident. • Do not swim at night. Assistance is nearly impossible. • Never get into a kayak after consuming alcohol or drugs. Stimulants slow reactions and reduce rationality as well as enhance heat loss.
2. Clothes during kayak trip ?
• Sports Clothes not restraining movements - the best with quick-drying material. • Sports footwear, that's not falling from feet (old trainers or boots for water sports - inadvisable are flip-flops or sandals, they stuck in the mud, break stripes. There is generally a big chance that we will complete our kayak trip barefoot, and for ex. we came by bus and the same we have to return • cycling gloves, effectively prevent painful chafes • on sunny days bright hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a bright shirt • In cooler days long shirt polar fleece and headwear • set of dry clothes for change. If you are going to flow mountain river or part of a river of this nature you should think about: • neoprene foam type long john (dungarees) • dry kayaking jacket, boots and gloves neoprene, • mandatory wear a helmet and life vest.
3. How to prepare food for kayak trip?
• On the 15 km distance of trip we should take at least approx. 1.5 liters of drink - preferably not fizzy, without alcohol in the composition. • On the route we should take a small snack in the form of sandwiches, bars, fruit. Usually on the route of trip there are no places where you can purchase meals. Kayak trip "pulls" from kayakers a lot of energy that need to be completed during stops on the route.
4. Where to pack stuff on kayak trip?
A. Strong, thick, plastic bags for garbage. Pack in them clothes or a sleeping bag. Bags and its contents tie with the rubber band insert in the bag of canvas, nylon or the backpack (without frame!). So prepared bundle with our items is protected by plastic bag from tearing and consequently from getting wet. B. Waterproof Bags serve the years, proven durability and water resistance, easily come into the chamber. Price approximately PLN 100 per bag of 60 liter. C. Waterproof barrels. Packaging in hermetic barrels. The advantage of this method is that things are not so crease and thus can be packed food eg. breads, sugar, etc. D. To useful accessories belong • covers for Phones / Cameras, • bags for documents, • containers for matches and kindling. General idea is to carry less things loose."
5. Alcohol & other drugs while kayak trip
Don't arrive on the kayak trip "with a hangover" during the event don't consume alcohol. Swimming "under the influence" is not reasonable. In the case of police control or guard the park you can count with penalty for "creating of threat" You should also be aware that in case of any accident "being under the influence" is a fact acting decisively against us.
7. Who should sit in the front, and who on the back of the double kayak ?
On the back should sit person with more experience and skills, because she should guide kayak. Person Sitting on the back sees more boats it is easier for him to assess the direction of flow and requires less energy to make the turn. Secondary importance is the distribution of weight and strength of kayakers. Optimally beak should not be submerged more than stern (light partner can be weight with luggage), and stronger person is sitting in the back (because he will be doing most of the maneuvers).
8. What dates are best to plan kayak trip? When kaayak season starts ? Is the long weekend in May an appropriate term for the kayak trip?
Many people think that the season never ends and do not start because it is possibile to swim by kayak all year round. For a beginner it is reasonable do not go on a day trip when the air temperature and the water is too low and does not exceed 10 degrees Celsius. Kayaking at lower temperatures requires proper preparation and clothing. Many commercial firms also organizes kayak trips during autumn-winter- and early spring season and often you can trust the organizers of such events: adaptation to their advice and recommendations and being under the care of a reasonable and competent staff maintains the required margin of safety. May weekend is (despite weather anomalies that can happen always) a reasonable time to start the adventure with kayaks.
9. Is GPS useful on kayaking?
Of course, that it is useful, but is it necessary? It is a nice gadget, so that you know within a few-dozen or so meters where you are and you can estimate the time until the next major obstacles (assuming that someone earlier sailed this route with a GPS and deigned to publish data with the relevant description). Besides GPS is a good speedometer - measures the speed of of the kayak to the surface of the Earth (not against flowing water). Reducing reasoning: if you can afford such a toy, then yes, you can find 1000 reasons \ "for \". If you do not you probably do not get lost on the river.
10. It is worth remembering about medicines
Before kayak trip we do not take medicaments, after which we should not stay in the sun (eg. such seemingly innocent medicinal products are drugs on St. John's Wort in the composition). Before kayak trip do not forget to take a dosage of usually used medicaments or take with you their proper dose , if it should be taken during the event. Trip can lengthen itself by a variety of reasons and then this recommendation may be very important. Take with you a preparation against stinging insects and ticks. After the trip carefully control the entire body, as in the last years has greatly increased the population of ticks, carrying threatening diseases such. Lyme disease, which not recognized and treated properly may be fatal.
11. Behaviour and tidiness
Going on the kayak trip remember that we will come into contact with wild nature, and therefore does not disturb the peace of wild animals, do not destroy plants and leave behind any other signs of of our presence as smoothing quickly trace on water after passing of our kayak.
